Media in Action

Media in Action is G.A.P.’s training for youth organizers who want to incorporate media into their campaign work. We do this over the course of a free, three-day training here in New York with youth organizers from all across the country working on a common cause. Media in Action trainings incorporate small-scale, hands-on production activities that include storytelling and interviewing techniques, aesthetic composition, creative camera work and editing; analytical activities that place past and current popular-media efforts within a framework of global media history, power, ownership, and movement-building; and strategy sessions to link media to social justice work. Organizers leave Media in Action trainings with:
- new skills to develop communication tools with compelling stories and convincing messages.
- a creative and fun avenue for young people to contribute to organizing efforts.
- ongoing curriculum resources and technical assistance.
